How to vote for Governance Proposals with Keplr Wallet

This blog post was originally published on Keplr's Medium blog on January 11, 2021.

Governance in the Hubs is becoming a more and more fundamental component in the evolutionary process of blockchain projects: through voting, it is possible to upgrade protocols, fund teams with tokens from the Community Pool to create unique tools, and much more.

Voting is both a right and a duty. It is extremely important to remember that delegators can overwrite the vote of their validator at any time if not satisfied with its choice. Be an active part of the success of a project — participate actively in Governance!

In this tutorial we will use Cosmos Hub as an example, but the process is applicable for all integrated chains including: Cosmos ($ATOM), Kava ($KAVA), Secret Network ($SCRT), Akash Network ($AKT), Starname ($IOV), Certik ($CTK), Sifchain ($ROWAN), IRISnet ($IRIS), Sentinel ($DVPN), Regen Network ($REGEN), Crypto.com ($CRO), Osmosis ($OSMO), Persistence ($XPRT), and others.

🏛 Navigate to the Governance Section

Go to the Keplr App Dashboard. In the navigation bar on the left, find the section for your desired chain (e.g., Cosmos Hub) and select [Governance].

On the governance page, you will find all information about current and past on-chain proposals. Proposals for which you can vote are marked with the blue [Voting Period] tag. You can read the full text of any proposal by clicking [Details] to make an informed vote.

🗳️ How to Cast Your Vote

After reviewing the proposal details and community discussions:

  1. Click on the blue [Vote] button at the top right of the proposal page (or on the [Vote] button on the Governance main page for your chosen proposal).
  2. Select your choice from the drop-down menu: [Yes], [No], [Abstain], or [No With Veto].
  3. Select the Fee you want to pay: [Low], [Average], or [High].
  4. Optionally add a note in the [Memo] field.
  5. Click [Set Fee] to proceed.
  6. Review all information in the final summary.
  7. Click [Approve] to finalize your vote.
